Maybe I was a little harsh on the DVD

OK, on second listen, I was a little harsh. My criticism mostly applies to the last song of the DVD "Santana Carabao," which is as bad as I described AND it was the song I really, really wanted to hear live. P'Theirry and P'Lek each sing a song and sound fine. OK, mai bpen lie and kaw thoot ka. I probably should not write all my reviews in the middle of the night, 5555.

The album is near perfect. The DVD is shockingly bad

I am mystified by this package. The album alone is 5 stars, it is the work of genius that is pretty much standard for Aed Carabao. He is an amazing composer and lyricist (see my review of the album alone). This album, thematically a tribute to Santana, contains at least 5 songs that I totally love to death--"Sawadee Prathet Thai" a patriotic song with a great hook and thoughtful political commentary; "Father's Day" about a garbage collector who can't take off work for Father's Day; a song about the boxer Manny Paquio; "Santana Carabao" a perfect and deliberate blending of the signature sounds of these two bands; and "The Value of a Person," a song so uplifting, it may be the equal of "Telay Jai." But I have to substract stars for the DVD, where 5 songs are sung live. P� Aed's voice is so hoarse, it's alarming. Is he well? Judging by the songs themselves and the sound on the studio album, he's at the top of his game. Never better. Judging by his voice on the DVD, something seems drastically wrong. If he was just having a bad day when they made the video, then why release the DVD? In fact, I have seen better Carabao performances on YouTube that are recent. It leaves me shaking my head. One could argue that album is worth the whole $30 I spent ($10 for the regular album that I've played 100 times, and the $20 to back and buy the special version with the DVD.) And I have three nice magnets.
