Story :

The setting is the future, the backdrop is government control. The problem: rebellious teenagers. Japan’s latest work of science fiction takes place only one year after the film was made, in 2002, a time when the stock market has plummeted and unemployment runs rampant. Japan has all but fallen into a terrible chaos, and as for the youth, well, they don’t see much of a future for themselves anymore. They’re response is to get violent, and fast. Never before has the country seen such a mass of teens become so derelict, and so lacking in respect for the authorities. And so the Reform School Act is born, and several junior high students are chosen randomly to be sent to a remote island, where they are coerced into playing a war game with the highest stakes they’ve ever known: life itself. Kitano (Beat Takeshi) is the hardened school instructor who leads these students into “Battle Royale”, for better … or for much, much worse.

เล่าเรื่องราวโลกอนาคตในจินตนาการ ประเทศญี่ปุ่นตกต่ำถึงขีดสุดในทุก ๆ ด้าน เศรษฐกิจพังนินาศยับเยิน ผู้คนจำนวน 10 กว่าล้านกลายเป็นคนว่างงานในชั่วพริบตา สังคมเสื่อมโทรมทรุดหนัก อาชญากรรมระบาดแพร่หลายไปทั่วทุกหนแห่ง ปัญหาวัยรุ่นกลายเป็นหนึ่งในปัญหาหลักระดับชาติ พวกเขาไม่ยอมเคารพเชื่อฟังผู้ใหญ่ กระด้างกระเดื่องต่อครูบาอาจารย์ รัฐบาลจึงวางมาตรการตอบโต้ด้วยการคิดเกม “แบทเทิล รอแยล” ขึ้นมากำราบเด็กแสบ ในแต่ละปีจะมีการสุ่มเลือกนักเรียนวัยประมาณ 15 ปีขึ้นมา 1 ชั้นเรียน (จำนวน 40 กว่าคน) จากนั้นพาไปปล่อยทิ้งไว้บนเกาะร้าง โดยทางโรงเรียนทำทีเสมือนว่ากำลังพาไปทัศนาจรนอกสถานที่ นักเรียนทุกคนถูกสวมปลอกคอ ซึ่งผู้ควบคุมสามารถกดปุ่มให้ระเบิดได้ทันที ทุกคนจึงต้องเล่นเกมกันหมด ไม่ว่าจะเต็มใจหรือไม่ โดยไม่มีโอกาสหลบหนีได้ ยิ่งไปกว่านั้น พื้นที่บนเกาะยังแบ่งเป็นโซนต่าง ๆ แต่ละวันจะมีการประกาศแจ้งให้ทราบเป็นระยะ ๆ ว่าที่ใดบ้างเป็นเขตอันตราย ซึ่งนักเรียนทุกคนคอยหลบเลี่ยง โดยละคนจะได้รับถุงยังชีพ ซึ่งประกอบด้วยอาหารและน้ำเท่าที่จำเป็น รวมทั้งอาวุธป้องกันตัว เกมจะดำเนินไป 3 วัน และต้องได้ผู้ชนะเพียงหนึ่งเดียว คือคนสุดท้ายที่รอดชีวิตเมื่อครบวันสุดท้าย หากครบกำหนดแล้วยังไม่ได้ผู้ชนะ ทุกคนต้องถูกฆ่าตายหมด ทุกคนจึงต่างดิ้นรนด้วยวิธีต่าง ๆ นานา เพื่อเป็นผู้รอดชีวิตจากเกม “แบทเทิล รอแยล”
