Story :

Maneejan (Florence Vanida) is a Paris-based archive specialist. A mysterious French work is brought to her for interpretation at the Thai consulate in Paris. She realizes the document is Voyageur, written by French naturalist Francois Xavier about Siam in the mid 19th century. Maneejan is moved by the record’s allusions to Siam’s shadowy past. When she returns to Thailand, she finds herself in a half-dream state, witnessing and experiencing her home country as it was more than a century ago, Siam as it struggled to defy outside influences to become a new civilization. Maneejan learns much about her country’s history, becomes a fighter alongside her cultural ancestors, and finds valuable lessons in life and love along the way.

i like this movie, everything in the movie is so real and beautiful, the buildings, the props, the streets... but a bit confusing la, i like the music very much, watched it for 4 times now, good movie !

this was an ok movie.. i think this movie needed some editing.. because it was SLOW.. i think i fell asleep on some parts of it.. it WAS an interesting movie.. just SLOW and couldnt really understand how she was going back in time.. ???

A little slow but worth watching. Thought provoking movie. I love the way the main character jumps between the past and present. She is sexy, but well covered. The different languages spoken are cool to listen to and work well into the plot.
I enjoyed the movie.

I bought the DVD of this movie. When loaned to a friend with a Sony DVD player, the machine was unable to select English subtitles. But my Yamaha had no such problems.

A very interesting movie, as the main character alternates between the present time & the past - 100 years back.

The way this comes about (without a time machine) is unconvincing. It would have been better that the girl (main character) actually dreamed rather than apparently being tired & in a state of weariness after her return from Paris to Bangkok.

The movie revolves around an old story document rediscovered that poytrays Bangkok being divided between France & England.

That didn't happen, but the Packnam Incident of 1893? did, with Thailand losing a lot territory to France. Gunboat diplomacy.

The King's officials do not believe Marie Ange when she relates what the future of Thailand will be. They are quite disturbed about the way life will be, in the future, she has come from.

A great movie for those who want to know more about Thai history & see how Thailand was 100 years ago.

There are 7 deleted scenes - these being with Anna Owen, the school teacher (The King & I ) who helped educate the royal children. The movie has of course not been seen in Thailand.

I felt it amusing that the King was heard in the background, saying, 'Etc etc, etc. Just as he did in the movie, when he dictated letters.

It is also a love story, as Marie Ange falls in love with one of the King's officials of 100 years ago. In the end, it seems she decides to stay in the past.

This is one of the better Thai movies & I really enjoy replaying it. Very good acting, scenicly attractive & high quality 5.1 channel audio.

Despite the English subtitles, I found sections difficult to understand (actionwise). But, generally the whole thing is easy to grasp.

The movie has my strong recommendation.
