Story :

A naturally talented artist, Yuliang (Gong Li) was once employed at a brothel until she became the second wife of Mr. Pan (Derek Yee). A loving wife, Yanliang doesn't realize her true talent for art until she studies at the Shanghai Art Institute. But the school's scandalous paintings of nudes lead it to close its doors, and Yanliang continues her training in Paris. Since Yanliang cannot bear him a child, Mr. Pan stays behind in China. In Paris, Yanliang finds fulfillment and acclaim as an artist, but also loneliness and a longing for her true love. Will Yanliang and Mr. Pan ever be able to realize their long-denied love?
