Story :

Amar (Shah Rukh Khan) is on a terrorist interview assignment for All India Radio somewhere in a northern territory, where he keeps bumping into Meghna (Manisha). Despite repeated attempts to get close to Meghna, all Amar really finds himself in is trouble, and after being ditched by Meghna, Amar quickly returns to his family in Delhi and an engagement to the frank and outspoken Preity (Preity Zinta).

Amar then sees Meghna in Delhi and chases her only to be hauled in by the police and interrogated. The police tell him that Meghna is part of a terrorist outfit and that according to rumors, there is a big conspiracy being hatched against the nation. Amar manages to find out that the outfit that Meghna is part of is going to bomb the venue of the Independence Day celebrations. He tries to dissuade her from participating in the gory crime but she refuses to listen to him.
