Story :

Siam, 1886, and Som's brother, a famous xylophonist, is killed by a competitor, leaving Sorn to take over. After asking his dad to take him to Bangkok to prove his skill, Khun In proved the most adept competitor and Sorn returned home to practice. Presently, he pioneered a unique style and became a musician of the royal palace, marrying Shote, his dream girl and a fellow palace staffer, and finally besting Khun In in a xylophone contest. Som eventually became an important teacher, who promoted traditional Thai music at a time when the traditional culture of developing Thailand was under threat of being subsumed by the influx of European influences.

ณ ประเทศสยาม พุทธศักราช 2429 “ศร” (อนุชิต สุพันธุ์พงษ์ ) เด็กหนุ่มที่มีความผูกพันกับดนตรีไทยมาตั้งแต่เกิด หลังจากที่พี่ชายตนเองต้องจบชีวิตลงด้วยน้ำมือของคู่ปรับผู้พ่ายแพ้ในการดวลระนาด ศรจึงได้รับช่วงต่อจากพี่ชาย โดยมีพ่อซึ่งเป็นครูสอนดนตรีไทยเป็นผู้ฝึกปรือฝีมือจนมีชื่อเสียงร่ำลือในทางระนาด ด้วยความลำพองในฝีมือของตน “ศร” จึงขอให้พ่อพาเขาไปบางกอก ที่นั่นเองที่ศรได้เรียนรู้ถึงความพ่ายแพ้เป็นครั้งแรกจากฝีมือของนักระนาดเอก “ขุนอิน” “ศร” กลับบ้านด้วยความภาคภูมิใจที่ถูกทำลายไปจนหมดสิ้น แต่ความสับสน ท้อแท้ สิ้นหวังกลับกลายเป็นความมุมานะที่จะฝึกฝนฝีมือ จนสามารถคิดค้นเทคนิคการตีระนาดที่ไม่เหมือนใคร ชื่อเสียงของศรร่ำลือไปจนถึงพระบรมมหาราชวัง “ศร”ได้รับการอุปถัมภ์ให้เป็นนักดนตรีประจำราชสำนัก จนได้พบกับแม่โชติ สตรีผู้สูงศักดิ์ในวังและได้กลายเป็นคู่ชีวิตในเวลาต่อมา และไม่นานศรก็ได้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันดนตรีกับขุนอินอีกครั้ง ฝีมือที่ฝึกปรือมาอย่างไม่ท้อถอยทำให้ศรสามารถเอาสติชนะขุนอินคู่ปรับเก่าได้ การเดินทางได้ดำเนินมาถึงจุดเปลี่ยนของบ้านเมือง ประเทศไทยในช่วงสมัยรัชกาลที่ 7 หรือช่วงสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 เป็นยุคสมัยของการเปลี่ยนแปลงทั้งการปกครองและวัฒนธรรม “ศร”ได้เดินทางผ่านยุคทองแห่งดนตรีไทย จากวัยหนุ่มสู่วัยชรา จนกลายมาเป็นครูดนตรีคนสำคัญ แต่ยุคนี้ดนตรีไทยเริ่มถูกปิดกั้นจากทางรัฐบาลที่ต้องการให้ประเทศเป็นศิวิไลซ์ เป็นอารยะตามแบบตะวันตก สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นนี้สร้างความปวดร้าวให้กับคนดนตรีไทยทุกคนรวมทั้งศรแต่เขาก็ยังหาญกล้าใช้เสียงเพลงต่อสู้ เพื่อให้ดนตรีไทยที่เขารักดั่งชีวิตนั้นอยู่รอดจากการถูกทำลาย

I saw this movie in the theatre with English subtitles. I want people in America to see it but that is impossible with out subtitles. You get the subtitled version on a non-PAL dvd and I will buy a lot of them.

The movie was done with such finesse and full of essence.
Its uniqueness lies in how the main character, Sorn, overcame his own fear by looking within and his reflections with nature which inspired
the originality on his musical technique.
The music and its soundtrack is exceptionally spirited, and inspired.
There should be DVD with subtitle in various languages for people
with other language i.e. English.

this is one of the best film you everseen in the long time ! the story is beautiful , the shot of the film, light,camera,action...very inspire for the music lovers!
